Gulda student Daniel Bertomeu Garrido – 1st Prize at "José Porta International Piano Competition"

Daniel Bertomeu Garrido won first prize at the José Porta International Piano Competition. The talented pianist began his piano studies at the age of six at the Conservatory El Musical in Bellaterra (Barcelona). He is currently studying at the Friedrich Gulda School of Music Wien with Philippe Raskin, while also continuing his studies at the Conservatory El Musical in Bellaterra with Daniel Ligorio, where he also studies composition.

His most recent project took place in early April, when he participated in the César Franck Young Talents & Orchestra Festival in Belgium. There, he had the opportunity to perform Grieg’s Piano Concerto in two concerts with the César Franck Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Eduard Ambartsumyan.

He has won several national and international competitions in his category, including first prize at the MozArte International Piano Competition in Aachen, first prize at the María Herrero International Piano Competition in Granada, and the Special Prize of the Hotchkiss School in Connecticut. He also received the Gold Hands First Award at the Carles & Sofia International Piano Competition, as well as awards for the best interpretation of works by Mompou, Bach, and Rachmaninoff. Other achievements include first prize at the National Piano Competition of the Diputación Albacete and first prize at the BBVA Music Competition for Individual Talent in Catalonia, among others.

He has given concerts and recitals at renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall (Weill Recital Hall), Concertgebouw Brugge, Ehrbar Saal (Vienna), La Sucrerie (Wavre), Elfers Hall (Hotchkiss School), the 41st edition of the La Antigua Zumarraga Music Festival, the Royal Monastery of Pedralbes in Barcelona, Josep Viader Auditorium in Girona, La Fact Auditorium in Terrassa, the XI Festival of Young Talents Maria Vilardell Viñas of Joventuts Musicals Moia, and the Royal Catalan Academy of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi, among others.
