History of our conservatory

From the beginning of the winter semester 2022/23, the "International Academy of Music and Performing Arts Vienna" (conservatory with public rights) will be renamed to "Friedrich Gulda School of Music Vienna".

The conservatory has evolved from the educational programs offered by the JAM MUSIC LAB Conservatory for Jazz and Popular Music.

It was founded in June 2011. In November 2011, the Federal Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture included the institute in the legal regulations for study grants for students at conservatories. This enabled the institute's students to receive scholarships and study grants according to the Austrian Study Grant Law and put them on an equal footing with other students in Austria in this respect.

The public status was first granted in March 2012. In June 2014 the unlimited public status was granted. In January 2017 the institute was accredited as JAM MUSIC LAB Private University for Jazz and Popular Music Vienna. At this time the Jam Music Lab became the 13th private university in Austria and the third private university for music after the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz and the Music and Art Private University of the City of Vienna.
